Pioneers in Rapid-Response Pulmonary Embolism Care
Since our Pulmonary Embolism Response Team (PERT) program launched in 2012, our multidisciplinary team has accelerated PE treatment and lowered mortality.
PERT programs drive coordinated, multidisciplinary care for time-sensitive cardiovascular emergencies—reducing mortality, bleeding, length of stay and possibly cost, all while accelerating treatment decisions and eliminating core variation.
A multidisciplinary model driving health system transformation
Our multidisciplinary model brings together cardiovascular and other critical disciplines to rapidly evaluate patients with complex or high-risk pulmonary embolism, facilitate collaborative decision-making, and connect patients to the most appropriate treatment pathway.
Nationally, PERT programs are becoming an increasingly important component of contemporary cardiovascular care as health systems seek to reduce variability, accelerate treatment decisions and improve coordination for patients with acute PE. Today, that experience allows The Heart Hospital to offer more than a clinical model. We can provide health systems with a proven roadmap for PERT development and transformation, including program design, multidisciplinary governance, clinical pathways, activation workflows, data and quality strategy, education and implementation support, all with one goal: improving care and outcomes for patients experiencing pulmonary embolism.
The inaugural Pulmonary Embolism (PE) Survivors Reunion
This event brought together patients, families, physicians and care teams to celebrate resilience, connection and support healing beyond treatment. Hosted by Baylor Scott & White The Heart Hospital’s PERT, the event offered survivors a unique opportunity to reconnect with the clinicians who cared for them, share personal stories and gain insight from physician experts. Featuring special guest speaker and PE survivor Charly Barby, the reunion focused on the life-changing impact of coordinated, multidisciplinary care and the lasting relationships formed through recovery.
